He was an active Army officer between 1969 and 2006. In this capacity he held various command, teaching and general staff positions (campaign committee in Angola, professor at the then IAEM and two commissions in NATO positions). He ended his military career as Major-General Deputy Director of the National Defense Institute. With a Master’s degree in Strategy (ISCSP) and a PhD in IR (UNL), he has published or collaborated on 8 books and has more than a dozen articles published in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Italy and Romania. In recent years he has been a higher education professor and as such, supervisor and member of Master’s and Doctorate juries, as well as, between 2010 and 2017, president of the International Relations Committee of the Geographical Society. He is a regular lecturer at the Military University Institute and the National Defense Institute and has collaborated on initiatives of the Autonomous University of Lisbon and the Lusíada University.
