Evidence and Penal Garantism

Prova e Garantismo Penal int 1 1

The Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, through its Graduate School Autónoma Academy and with the scientific support of Nomos Consulting Group, is pleased to announce to the legal community the launch of its newest advanced course: “Evidence and Penal Garantism.” Featuring a curriculum of the highest quality and a faculty of great international prestige, this is an intensive, in-person course (fully held in Lisbon) lasting two and a half weeks, with classes running 8 hours per day, where the pursuit of excellence sets the standard.

Designed to serve both the so-called “legal practitioners”—especially judges, members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Public Defense, lawyers, police chiefs and directors, and experts—and academic researchers from the most rigorous institutions, “Evidence and Penal Garantism” will undoubtedly become a significant milestone in the curriculum of its graduates.

The course includes the participation of Luigi Ferrajoli, Emeritus Professor at Roma Tre University, an eminent jurist and legal thinker of global renown, to whom we owe the theory of penal garantism. He will be with us during the first week of the course to deliver a keynote lecture.

The course aims to provide participants with an in-depth theoretical and conceptual mastery of evidentiary matters within the framework of the garantist criminal process, enabling direct and intensive dialogue with the most prestigious researchers and practitioners in each discipline. Every aspect of the course—from the curriculum to the creation of an environment fostering constant interaction with professors and fellow participants—has been carefully designed to promote advanced technical and scientific knowledge, empowering graduates to become specialists in the field, always adhering to the strictest principles and normative provisions that define the constitutional rule of law.

Graduates will earn the title of “Specialist in Evidence and Penal Garantism” and may, in accordance with current legislation, apply the credits toward stricto sensu postgraduate courses offered by Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.

All operators of the criminal justice system—especially judges, members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Public Defense, lawyers, and experts—as well as researchers focused on the in-depth study of key concepts in criminal procedure.
