Law and Artificial Intelligence
Scientific Area

One of the most significant challenges of our time is the rapid emergence of sophisticated technological resources; in particular, and more recently, the so-called Artificial Intelligence (AI) in its various forms of expression. We are legal professionals. Today, we participate, directly or indirectly, in a judicial system where quick and efficient responses are increasingly rare. But nothing is lost.
AI presents us with a horizon full of extraordinary possibilities, while at the same time posing numerous threats. Which path do we want to take? The first step is to acknowledge that the legal environment is largely unprepared to handle this true revolution. With such unpreparedness, we are deprived of great achievements and remain vulnerable to daily assaults with significant harmful impact on all kinds of rights.
Let us face the challenge. Through its Graduate School, Autónoma Academy, and with the scientific support of the international legal consultancy Nomos Consulting Group, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa is honored to present to the legal community its newest advanced course:
<<Law and Artificial Intelligence: Theoretical and Practical Challenges of Our Time >>
This is an intensive, in-person course held in Lisbon, Portugal. With a curriculum of the highest quality and a faculty of great international prestige, we will gain mastery of the knowledge necessary to make AI a reliable ally in an increasingly complex and challenging world. The credits earned may be later applied towards a potential Master’s or Doctorate degree at the same institution.
You won’t miss opportunities because of Artificial Intelligence. You’ll miss opportunities because of those who know how to use it.
All legal fields, especially those concerning fundamental rights (whether individual or social), criminal law, civil law, procedural law, evidentiary law, labor law, administrative law, international law—in short, all areas that may benefit from the changes ushered in by this new era. The ongoing technological revolution demands theoretical sophistication and political courage from all those within democratic institutions. It is with these individuals that we are committed.
It is to support them that we have organized ourselves academically. Thus, members of courts of all instances, members of the public prosecutor’s office, the public defender’s office, lawyers working in all areas, advanced researchers, it was to make AI available to you that we created yet another excellent course.
